Okay so The chick from Twilight is in it, big deal! Personally I can’t stand the pouty pose off that is Twilight but in the new movie ‘The Runaways’ Kirsten Stewart plays the legendary Joan Jett. I was as apprehensive as any true fan of the actual band when I heard this movie was being made, especially when I heard Dakota Fanning was playing Cherie Currie? The innocent little girl from ‘War of the Worlds’ playing a sex saturated, sleazy, stocking waring front-women of the first ever all girl punk rock group ‘The Runaways!
Okay the movie is typical Hollywood, embellishing every factor about the band, it presents the Runaways as a crazy drug fueled, bunch of foul mouthed sex kittens but it just doesn’t do the band any justice and comes across as slightly forced and unreal. Fanning is actually pretty good at playing the singer Cherie, unfortunately the film seems to focus on Kirsten Stewarts portrayal of Joan Jett and this is quite awkward to watch as she experiments with lesbianism and drugs while rebelling at every opportunity. It would be far better to reduce all that and focus on the personality and drive Joan Jett has!
Anyway the poster design is a different story, I love it- it is perfect in every way, taking it’s idea from the bands biggest song ‘Cherie Bomb’ and having the stencil design is really cool, also the faded record ring is a nice touch, indicating the retro nature of the movie.
Wicked graphics/poster/cover, not so wicked film.
